P.E. is taught twice a week through the school. Each class will take in some indoor and outdoor activities each term. A wide range of individual and competitive sports are taught and Year 3 classes go swimming each week as part of their P.E. sessions. We hope that the enjoyment, skills and discussions about healthy choices will help children see the importance of looking after their bodies. This is done through activities like Dance, Gymnastics, Invasion games, Multisport skills sessions where the children often have the chance to work as part of a team. The schools are part of the Derby City Schools Sports Partnership which provides some competitive events the schools can take part in. Year 4 classes at both schools have been to a sports festival to compete at a range of events with other children from city schools. Year 6 children at Cottons Farm also attended a winter sports festival where they got to try Ice Skating and Curling.
At both schools sports day is an important part of the school summer term where children take part in whole school competitions. To increase opportunities to be competitive, the two schools are planning for inter-school skills competitions to take place in the spring and summer terms.
After School Clubs
At both schools Premier Sports provide clubs for the children to take part in additional sports activities after school. Some of the clubs that have been on offer are Gymnastics, Archery, Multisports and Fencing.
