“There is freedom waiting for you,

On the breezes of the sky,

And you ask, ‘What if I fall?’

Oh but, what if you fly?” – Erin Hanson

At Ash Croft Primary Academy, we aspire to develop our pupils' character through a learning experience which celebrates understanding, co-operation, tolerance, resilience and teaches our pupils how to be citizens with a well-rounded understanding of their local and wider communities. In our academy we understand the importance of showing our true colours and developing our individuality.

PSHE helps children to aspire by teaching them how to develop and maintain a healthy body and positive mind; encouraging children to develop a sense of responsibility, pride and ownership of their wellbeing as well as a confidence to overcome problems or situations that arise in their education and life. Through learning about a diverse range of inspirational figures during our PSHE lessons, children are nurtured to develop and embrace their own aspirations. Our pupils will learn how to set long term goals and work on developing the strategies needed to achieve them, whilst remaining mindful of their emotions and wellbeing throughout. This strong sense of awareness allows children to successfully transition into their next phase of learning, both in school and beyond.

Collaboration runs through the heart of PSHE at Ash Croft Primary Academy; children connect and collaborate in every lesson. PSHE teaches our students to have compassion and respect for each other as children are given opportunities to discuss contrasting viewpoints and ideas. The children are taught to appreciate and co-operate with one another whilst recognising that everybody is individual, and we should tolerate each other’s differences and embrace these. This is a lesson which the children can then take into their personal lives and beyond education.

Our PSHE curriculum will run in tandem with the RHE curriculum. Through this, we will be developing our understanding of different relationships and what makes them healthy, wellbeing and mental health and safety whilst online which connects to our HTML approach.

Throughout their time at Ash Croft Primary, the children will experience a positive and mindful approach to learning. We celebrate and experience special days including Anti-bullying week, Mental Health week, Children in Need and our Pledge dedicated days. These experiences all support our learners in their emotional, social and moral development by consistently widening their understanding of physical, mental and emotional health. Our children’s character is also developed through the Harmony Pledge, which runs parallel to the PSHE curriculum. This is something that, Harmony, as a trust is very dedicated to. Through our Pledge initiative, the children explore and develop 10-character competencies as well as participating and engaging in 10 pledges which enable the children to become outstanding, unique and successful individuals.

By following this, Ash Croft is going to become ACE at PSHE.
